SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team suffered a 62-53 loss to the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to open Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) competition on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The Seawolves held a 15-11 advantage near the midway point of the first half, but the Panthers would go into the break ahead 28-27 keeping pace in a back-and-forth affair. The first 10 minutes of the second half saw four lead changes, but Albany created separation in the latter stages of the game to polish off a 9-point victory.
Sophomore Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) recorded his second a double-double of the season, collecting 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) and junior Colby Dillingham (Norway, Maine) would combine for 13 points and four assists and sophomore guard Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) added seven points, shooting 50.0 percent from the field, off the bench.
The Panthers' center Brett Richards lead his team with a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds and 15 points, shooting an efficient 7-12 from the field. Guard Jalon Munoz would have a team high 16 points, nearly obtaining a double-double with 9 rebounds.
SMCC falls to 0-4; Albany improves to 5-1.
The Seawolves will return to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on Tuesday, Nov. 19 when they travel to the University of Maine at Augusta. Tip-off inside the Civic Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
