
POTTERSVILLE, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team dropped the first of a two-game Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) road trip, 59-53, at Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) on Friday, Nov. 22.
The Seawolves trailed by one point, 14-13, midway through the first half; the home team finished the period ahead by a 12-point margin. SMCC pulled within three points, 54-51, with 5:26 left in regulation, but the home team managed to make stops on the defensive end and knock down timely free throws to hold off SMCC's momentum.
Sophomore Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) topped all scorers in the game with 19 points on 8-14 shooting. Houghton pulled down eight rebounds and grabbed two steals in 24 minutes on the floor. Senior captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) finished with a season-high 18 points, and first-year forward Sean Bosia (Dracut, Mass.) dished five assists.
WOLBI's Lukas Parschauer and Hayden Jordan combined for 30 points and 16 rebounds.
SMCC remains winless at 0-6 overall, 0-3 in conference play. WOLBI moves to 7-1, 4-0 YSCC.
