
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College claimed a well-deserved win, defeating UCONN Avery Point, 86-41, in a non-conference men's basketball game at the HUB Athletics Center on Saturday night.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves controlled the game from tipoff, as they established an early lead and did not look back. Their aggressive defense limited Avery Point to just 25% shooting from the field, while the Seawolves connected on 56% of their shots. Notably, the Seawolves' bench contributed 37 points while shooting 47% from the field.
Offensively, Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) led the Seawolves with 13 points and six rebounds, while Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) tallied 12 points with four three-pointers. Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) controlled the glass with eight rebounds while contributing nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC headed into halftime commanding a 40-15 lead. The Seawolves' defense required Avery Point to take tough shots while forcing four turnovers, which resulted in six points for the hosts. Silva's early three-point shooting sparked the offense, while Charlie Houghton and Sean Bosia made key contributions inside the arc.
The Seawolves picked up the second half where they left off, as the hosts shot 62.5% from the floor while extending their lead in the closing 20 minutes. Off the bench, Ben Mullett (Hudson, N.H.) and Nathan Mugisha kept the energy high with Mullett adding eight points and Mugisha knocking down a three. SMCC's ball movement and team play resulted in 23 assists.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, January 8, when they host Mass Bay Community College in non-conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM at the HUB Athletics Center.
