Seawolves Secure Commanding YSCC Victory Over Paul Smith’s College

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College Men's Basketball secured a commanding victory over Paul Smith's College, 85-69, in a YSCC in conference matchup at The HUB Athletics Center on Saturday afternoon.

SUMMARY

The Seawolves took control early and maintained their momentum throughout the game. They forced turnovers and dominated the paint. SMCC shot an efficient 50% from the field, holding the Bobcats to 37.7% shooting, and outscored Paul Smith's 42-10 in the paint. Their aggressive play resulted in 27 points off turnovers.

Senior guard Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) led the Seawolves with 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, while knocking down all six free-throws. He also added three rebounds and a steal. Sophomore forward Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) controlled the boards with nine rebounds and scored 10 points, while first-year forward Nathan Mugisha (Westbrook, Maine) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SMCC established dominance in the first half, building a 47-25 lead by the end of the first half. The Seawolves' defense forced nine turnovers for the Bobcats and held them to 25% shooting. On offense, Martinotti's shooting led the charge, while Houghton and Sean Bosia (Dracut, Mass.) added points inside the arc by driving to the rim.

In the second half, Paul Smith's Jayden Williams lit up the arc with 22 points knocking down five three pointers. However the Seawolves' kept the pressure on. Mugisha sparked energy off the bench hitting a pair of threes and pulling down eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) added nine points with five rebounds, helping the Seawolves maintain a comfortable margin and secure the win.

LOOKING AHEAD

Southern Maine Community College will look to build on this win as they host another in conference mathcup against Word of Life in their next game on Monday, January 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5PM at The HUB Athletics Center.
