SMCC Falls To Great Bay CC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team put up a strong fight at home but ultimately fell 91-75 to Great Bay Community College in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup on Wednesday night. 

SUMMARY  

SMCC kept pace offensively but struggled to slow down Great Bay's attack, which shot 53.1% from the field and 52.6% from three-point range. Thomas Martinotti (Hardwinton, Connecticut) led the Seawolves with 19 points, six rebounds, and three three-pointers, while Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) contributed 15 points and five free throws on perfect shooting from the line.  

Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) added 13 points and two steals, while Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) tallied 11 points and nine rebounds. Sean Bosia (Dracut, Massachusetts) played efficiently, finishing with 10 points and three assists. 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

Great Bay came out firing, hitting 70% of their three-point attempts in the first half to take a 53-34 lead at the break. The Seawolves fought back in the second half, outscoring their opponent 41-38, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

SMCC shot 41.1% from the field and knocked down 85.2% of their free throw attempts, but struggled from beyond the arc at 26.1% (6-23).  

The defensive pressure from Great Bay forced nine SMCC turnovers, converting them into 10 points. The Seawolves capitalized on 13 points off turnovers, but struggled to control the glass, losing the rebounding battle 36-24.  

LOOKING AHEAD 

The Seawolves (8-15, 6-8 YSCC) look to bounce back in their next matchup at CMCC on February 12th. Tipoff is Scheduled for 8PM.
