STATE COLLEGE, Penn.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's golf team placed fourth at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship event, carding a total score of 628 over two rounds. The tournament, held at the prestigious Penn State Blue Course, featured top teams from across the nation, and SMCC proved its place among those programs on both the men's and women's circuits.
The Seawolves showcased consistent play throughout the championship, with strong individual performances contributing to the team's success. Sophomore Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) paced his team with scores of 78 and 75, earning him First Team All-American honors and landing him tied for third overall. Dillon also achieved All-Academic status. Owen Lee (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was close behind with scores of 81 and 75, tying him for 13th place and a spot on the All-American Second Team. Asa Buteau (Scarborough, Maine), contributed scores of a career low 77 an 82. Lucas Inman (South Portland, Maine) put together a weekend of 78 and 82 and Christopher Keene (South Portland, Maine) rounded out the men's efforts with a pair of 86's. Though they faced tough competition, their final score of 628 reflected resilience and determination. While they narrowly missed the podium, SMCC's top-4 finish highlighted their growth and potential on the national stage.
The Lady Seawolves were led by first-year Charlotte Blanchard (Dedham, Maine) who posted 86 and 83. Sophomore Sydney Pergerson (South Berwick, Maine) played well shooting a 93 and 85. Emma Hajdasz (Colchester, Conn.) contributed a season low 92 and 104 on the weekend; and Delaney Blake (Bowling Green, Ohio) posted 120 and 104.
The big highlights for SMCC came during the skills competition on Saturday. SMCC took home the men's and women's putting and longest drive trophies. Blanchard and Inman made clutch putts from 20 feet to secure the victory while Dillon and Hajdasz drove it 289 and 244 to take home the long drive hardware.
These results add to the Seawolves' history of athletic excellence and sets a strong foundation for future seasons.
