NEWTONVILLE, MASS.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team collected a doubleheader sweep of Roxbury Community College in its first play date of the spring season on Sunday, Apr. 7.

SMCC won both games by the 8-run rule, to include many individual standout performances. In the first game, first-year captain Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) hit for the cycle to go along with seven RBIs; and first-year catcher Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) connected for three homers in the second game.

First-year captain Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) started game one inside the circle—she totaled 13 strikeouts and did not allow a hit. The second game featured a dazzling performance from first-year Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) who dominated with 11 strikeouts.

SMCC improves to 8-2 on the season.

The Seawolves will meet Roxbury again, this time in South Portland, on Tuesday, Apr. 9. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
