AUGUSTA, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball dropped the opening frame of a conference doubleheader 5–2 to the University of Maine at Augusta.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMA broke a scoreless game with a tally in the second, then added two more in the fourth for a 3–0 lead. SMCC answered in the fifth when Hayley Cowan (Red Deer, Alberta) singled home Emma Hartt (Edmonton, Alberta) after Hartt's leadoff double; Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) later scored on a fielder's choice to make it 3–2. UMA responded with two in the sixth to seal it.
In the circle: Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) went the distance, allowing five runs and eight hits over 6.0 innings (2 BB).

UMA used an eight-run fourth to pull away and complete the sweep with a 10–1, five-inning result. SMCC's lone run came in the third when Emma Hartt (Edmonton, Alberta) doubled and scored on Carly Youngblood's (Tracy, New Brunswick) RBI single.
