Lady Seawolves Roll Past Bulldogs in Home Opener

South Portland - Intense defensive pressure and a balanced scoring attack allowed the Lady Seawolves to come away with a 98-40 victory over the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College in tonights women's basketball action. 

The Seawolves' pressing defense proved too much for the Lady Bulldogs as SMCC held them to just 17 points and caused 21 turnovers in the first half of play. The Lady Seawolves shot an impressive 47% from the field for the game and capitalized from free throw line, shooting 17-23. SMCC put eleven people in the scorebooks, including five in double figures.  Offensive leaders for the Lady Seawolves included Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) who put up 15 points on 5-7 shooting and went 5-5 from the charity stripe and Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) who had 14 points and three blocks. Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA), Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) and Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) each chipped in with 10 points and Veino also grabbed 10 rebounds recording a double-double in just the second game of the year.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs were Yohana Chrisyanto, who dropped in 20 points to lead all scorers, and Kyshani Dummott who recorded ten points, five steals and five rebounds.

With this win the Lady Seawolves improve to 1-1 overall. They will return to action on Wednesday November 6th at Maine Maritime Academy at 6:30 pm.
