Mustangs Hand Seawolves First Conference Loss

South Portland - In tonight's YSCC conference basketball action the Lady Mustangs of Central Maine Community College used intense defensive pressure to defeat the Lady Seawolves by a score of 80-64.

Unforced turnovers were the demise of the Lady Seawolves in tonight's conference action as they committed 28 turnovers, while CMCC accumulated 17 steals. At the 8:05 mark in the second half a jumper by forward Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) chipped the CMCC lead down to single digits, 60-51, but the Lady Seawolves were unable to get any closer than that.

Leading the way for SMCC was post player Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) who scored 15 points on 6-11 shooting, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out three assists and racked up four steals. Shooting guard Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) also dropped in 15 points and Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) dished out 11 assists and chipped in six points. Leading the charge for the Mustangs were forward Susie French (Portsmouth, NH) who led all scorers with 18 points, point guard Maggie McConkey who racked up a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and center Laura Soohey who also contributed a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. 

With this loss the Lady Seawolves drop to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference. The Lady Seawolves will return to action on the road Friday December 20th against Briarcliffe College at 6pm.
