
New York- This weekend the Lady Seawolves began their two game road trip in New York with a game against Briarcliffe College. The Lady Seawolves trailed most of the game, were able to cut the lead to five points late in the second half but they were unable to overcome the deficit, falling to Briarcliffe 73-60.
Foul trouble had a large impact on both teams as three players for each team fouled out by the end of the contest. The entire starting backcourt for the Lady Seawolves, Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME), Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) and Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA), were eliminated from the contest due to fouls.
Leading the way for the Lady Seawolves were shooting guard Danielle McCusker who dropped in 17 points and forward Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) who scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) chipped in eight points on 8-10 shooting from the free throw line.
Dropping in 28 points and leading all scorers was Briarcliffe's point guard Kiara Johnson. Also having noteworthy performances for Briarcliffe were guard Shentia Urquhart who chipped in 15 points and forward Sasha SantaMaria who scored 13.
With this loss the Lady Seawolves drop 8-4 overall and 6-1 in YSCC conference play. The Lady Seawolves will return to action Saturday December 21st at Vaughn College.
