
Newport, RI - In this afternoon's women's basketball action the Lady Rams of the Naval Academy Prepatory School jumped out to an early lead in the first minutes of regulation and extended that lead to nine points by halftime, 38-29. In the second half the Lady Seawolves closed the gap to within one point, 52-51, but the Lady Rams answered and pulled away with the 66-57 victory.
The Lady Seawolves struggled finding their offensive, shooting only 21-59 from the floor and 8-20 from the charity stripe and on multiple occasions the Lady Rams were able to capitalize on the Lady Seawolves 28 turnovers. Sparking the SMCC offense was point guard Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) who netted four three pointers and scored a game high 18 points and dished out five assists. Lady Seawolves forward Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) chipped in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Leading the way for the Lady Rams were guard Ashanti Curry who scored a game high 30 points and point guard Taylor Dunham who knocked in 23 points.
With this loss the Lady Seawolves drop to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in YSCC conference play. The Lady Seawolves will return to action on January 22nd at home against the University of Maine-August at 6pm.
