Lady Seawolves Turn Over Win to Mustangs

Auburn -  Tonight the Lady Seawolves traveled north to face off against conference rival Central Maine Community College, a battle of the conference #1 and #2 seeds. The Lady Mustangs were able to force the Lady Seawolves into 29 turnovers, coupled with the mere 10-24 that SMCC shot from the free throw line, allowing CMCC to come away with the 68-55 defeat.

Going into halftime the Mustangs held on to a slight advantage, 32-29. The two teams came out of the break exchanging baskets and with 12:25 remaining the Mustangs were still up only three by a score of 39-42. At the 11:05 mark the Seawolves received a huge blow when forward Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) fouled out of the contest with six point, seven rebounds, and three assists. The Seawolves were able to keep the game close at the 4:02 mark the score was 53-59 in favor of the Mustangs but CMCC went on a 9-2 run to close out the contest, leaving the Seawolves 13 points short.

The Seawolves were led by their most consistent offensive contributor, Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) who netted 16 points to go along with six boards. Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) dropped in 10 and teammate Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) scored eight points to go along with six rebounds. The "big three" from CMCC showed up to play tonight as Laura Soohey scored a game high 17 points and grabbed a game high 16 rebounds, Gabby Foy and Susie French each put up 16 points. 

With this loss the Lady Seawolves drop to 17-7 overall and 12-2 in YSCC play. They will finish up regular season play on Saturday February 15th at home against Vermont Technical College at 1pm.
