Plummer Leads Moose Past Seawolves

Plummer Leads Moose Past Seawolves

Augusta - The Lady Seawolves could not find an answer for UMA's Jamie Plummer (Richmond, ME) and her 31 point, 18 rebound performance as the fell to YSCC foe UMaine-Augusta 64-61 in last night's conference basketball action.

The Moose jumped out to an early 12-4 lead but three consecutive baskets by Seawolves' center Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) closed the gap to 12-10. Plummer and the Moose answered with an 8-2 run to balloon the lead back to eight in favor of UMA at the 8:49 mark. The Lady Seawolves kept fighting and answered with a 15-8 run to close out the half trailing by one, 28-27. Seawolves' center Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA) took over during the closing run, scoring seven of her nine total points.

Lady Seawolves' Hoyt and Jones battled foul trouble all game, beginning the second half with three apiece, but the aggressive play of the two centers and teammate Jaimi Poland (Skowhegan, ME) sparked a 7-1 run by SMCC to start the second half.  The Seawolves would remain in the driver's seat until the 5:10 mark when UMA's Jessica St. Amand drew a foul that disqualified Jones and capitalized on two free throws that put UMA on top 49-48. Two minutes after Jones left the game, Hoyt picked up her fifth foul against Plummer, sending her to the bench for the final 3:12.

The back and forth game was knotted at 58-58 after Seawolves' shooting guard Kendra Kagiliery (Kittery, ME) knocked down her second shot from beyond the arc, but once again Plummer had the answer as she knocked down two free throws to put the Moose back on top. SMCC's Poland connected on an old fashioned three point play with 00:50 remaining to give the Seawolves a 61-60 lead but a Plummer jump shot put the Moose ahead for the final time 20 seconds remaining. Plummer iced the game when she connected on two free throws with 3.7 seconds on the clock.

Alicia Hoyt led the Seawolves with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jones and Poland each added nine points. Plummer led all scorers with 31, including 9-10 from the free throw line.

The Lady Seawolves drop to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in YSCC action. They will return after the holiday break to play at Eastern Maine CC on Sunday the 30th at 2pm.
