Lady Seawolves Cruise Past NHTI

Lady Seawolves Cruise Past NHTI

Concord - Tonight the Lady Seawolves traveled south to take on conference foe, New Hampshire Technical Institute, in a game that has always been a tough matchup for SMCC. Seawolves' post players Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) and Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA) combined for the Seawolves' first 12 points of the game to put the Seawolves up 12-5 with 15:54 remaining in the first half. The Lynx closed the gap to four points on an Allura LeBlanc layup at the 10:05 mark but that would be the closest the Lynx would come as the Seawolves rolled to a 93-56 triumph.

Hoyt paced the Seawolves scoring 16 of her game high 18 points in the first half while Jones led the team in rebounds, grabbing 14, and scored 10 points.  The difference makers in tonights' game were the full court defense, the rebounding margin and productivity of the bench. The defensive pressure by the Lady Seawolves forced the Lynx into 30 turnovers which translated into 31 SMCC points. Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) led the Seawolves in steals with four while Hoyt and teammate Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) each had three. SMCC outrebounded NHTI 50-31 and the Seawolves bench chipped in 48 points compared to 14 from the NHTI bench, all coming from LeBlanc.

Joining Hoyt and Jones on the SMCC leader board were center Jennifer Genthner (Newcastle, ME) and shooting guard Katy Cyr (Springfield, MA) who contributed 12 points a piece. Three point specialists Kendra Kagiliery (Kittery, ME) and Samantha Griffin (Union, ME) combined for 5-10 from beyond the arc to net a combined 15 points. Turner and Jaimi Poland (Skowhegan, ME) both pitched in eight points.

NHTI was led by 2013-14 all-conference post player, Allura LeBlanc, who netted 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

After a lengthy stretch of away games the Seawolves will return to their home court on Saturday the 6th for a conference matchup with UMaine-Machias at 1pm.
