Seawolves Grab 86-48 Win Over Greater Allegheny

South Portland - An intense defensive effort and unselfish play on offense allowed the Seawolves to pick up a commanding 86-48 win against the Nittany Lions of Penn State University of Greater Allegheny.

Lady Seawolves' guard Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) set the tone for the Seawolves on defense by limiting PSU's best offensive player, Mandi Johnston, who entered today's contest averaging 27.5 points per game, to just two field goals and nine total points. The rest of the team fed off Nielsen's energy, forcing 13 PSU turnovers and holding the Nittany Lions to just twenty-four percent shooting from the floor.

On offense the Seawolves racked up 23 assists on 37 made field goals and shot an impressive forty-seven percent from the field. SMCC was able to take advantage of their size underneath, getting a combined 58 points and 23 rebounds from post players Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA), Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) and Hannah Heald (Appleton, ME). Nielsen ended the contest with her first collegiate double-double, chalking up 12 points and 10 assists to go along with seven rebounds. Point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) chipped in with nine points, nine rebounds and four assists.

The Nittany Lions were led by shooting guard Tori Johnston who had 17 points and four rebounds.

With this win the Seawolves improve to 3-1 and will take the floor next at Vermont Technical College on Saturday November 14th at 1pm.
