Tough Second Quarter Costs Seawolves

Tough Second Quarter Costs Seawolves

Augusta - In the second quarter of tonight's YSCC women's basketball matchup the Moose of UMaine-Augusta outscored the Seawolves 30-11, en route to a 74-50 victory.

After one quarter the Seawolves trailed by just four, 17-13, but UMA's Caitlin LaFountain shot a perfect 5-5 in the second period and chalked up 11 points to lead UMA to a double digit cushion. The Moose converted on 10 of the 20 shots they took in the quarter while the Seawolves converted on only four of their 17 attempts. This shooting discrepancy led to a 47-24 Moose lead going into halftime. Seawolves' center Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) was the sole reason SMCC was able to stay in the game through the first two periods, scoring 12 of the teams 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

The Seawolves played even with the Moose in the final two quarters, led by shooting guards Destinie Montano (Chicopee, MA) and Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) who netted eight and six points respectively.

The Moose were led by LaFountain who ended with 17 points and 16 rebounds and point guard Darby Toth who scored a game high 19 points and dished out eight assists.

With this loss the Seawolves slip to 7-2 and 2-1 in conference play. The women will be off until Thursday December 3rd when they play NHTI at home at 8pm.
