Moose Top Seawolves, 65-52

South Portland - In last night's YSCC women's basketball action the balanced scoring attack of UMA was too much for SMCC as the Moose prevailed 65-52.

The Seawolves started the game shooting a dismal 4-14 in the first quarter, scoring only eight points and trailing 15-8 going into the second period. In the second quarter Seawolves' forward Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA) connected on two field goals, SMCC's only makes of the period. Fortunately the Seawolves were productive from the charity stripe, knocking down eight of their 11 attempts to keep the game within reach at the half, 31-20.

The Seawolves opened the third quarter with a 5-0 run from a Vanese Barnes (Jay, ME) three pointer and layup to cut the UMA lead to six. The Moose responded with back to back scores to get the lead back to double digits, 35-25, but then an Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) layup and a Destinie Montano (Chicopee, MA) make from downtown brought the Seawolves back to within five. However that was as close as the Seawolves would get as UMA came away with the 65-52 victory.

The Seawolves were led by Jones and Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) who each scored 10 points and combined for 10 rebounds. Barnes and Montano each chipped in nine for the Seawolves.

The Moose were paced by forwards Jaimi Plummer and Morgan Card who each chalked up a double double. Plummer scored 16 to go along with 14 boards while Card netted 14 and corralled 10 rebounds.

The Seawolves now drop to 17-6 on the year and 7-4 in conference play. The ladies will hit the road on Saturday for a nonconference matchup at Dean College at 1pm.
