RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team picked up win number 22 in its 61-38 defeat of Vermont Technical College (VTC) in its final regular season game on Saturday, Feb. 11.

First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) led the SeaWolves with 17 points, shooting 50 percent (7-14) from the floor in 25 minutes of action. Abdul added eight rebounds, six offensive, and six steals in an outstanding effort. Co-captain Hannah Heald (Union, Maine) recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds spanning 28 minutes. Sophomore Emily Keene (Livermore Falls, Maine) finished in double digits with 10 as first-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) contributed with four assists and a career-high five steals.

VTC's Doireann Chesbrough led all scorers totaling 19 points.

The SeaWolves outscored their opponent in all four quarters, shooting 35.4 percent from the floor. Near a third of SMCC's points was attributed to its bench as the SeaWolves dominated play inside the paint tallying 24 points in the key and out-rebounding VTC 39-24.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Katie Bergeron stated, "After Wednesday's result, I was happy to be back on the floor two days later. We had new players step up! I was thrilled to see Heald get another double-double like I know she is capable of every night. Abdul was great defensively that lead to her production on the offensive end, and Keene came through with efficient minutes. All in all, everyone who stepped on the floor made an impact. It was a great team win to wrap up a wonderful regular season!"

SMCC concludes its regular season at 12-2 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play, and 22-3 overall. VTC finishes with an 8-7 conference record, 9-18 overall.

The SeaWolves will enter the YSCC Elite Eight Tournament as the second seed and match-up against the seventh-seeded University of Maine at Machias in the quarter finals on Thursday, Feb. 16. As part of a four-game slate hosted at SMCC, the SeaWolves will tip-off at 6 p.m.
