SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—First-year Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.), of the Southern Maine Community College women’s basketball team, was named Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Week on Wednesday, Jan. 25 for her dominant play in the SeaWolves’ backcourt in week nine of the regular season.

The 5’1’’ shooting guard tallied 33 points, burying 10 of 15 from beyond the arc, and added seven rebounds spanning a two-game home stand Wednesday, Jan 11 vs. Paul Smith’s College and Saturday, Jan. 14 against the College of St. Joseph (VT).

Ruth’s most impressive showing of the week was her 22 points and season-high seven three-pointers made in the SeaWolves’ 31-point rout of St. Joe’s. She led all scorers in the game shooting 70 percent from the floor, taking only two two-point attempts.

Ruth continues to prove why she is one of the best shooters in the country. She ranks first in the conference and second among United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II players in three-point percentage, making the 21-footer 42.5 percent of the time.

The SMCC women look to extend their six-game winning streak as they play host to the Lady Bulldogs from Dean College on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the HUB.
