Lady Seawolves Conclude Can Am With 21-Point Win

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team earned its first win of the year with a 77-56 defeat of the University of New Brunswick- Saint John on Sunday, Oct. 30.

SMCC carried a 10-point advantage to begin the fourth quarter—when the home team poured in 27 points in the final 10 minutes to win in convincing fashion.

Four finished in double figures for SMCC, featuring 10 points from sophomore captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) on 5-10 from downtown. Junior captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) connected for 18 points and seven rebounds, and first-year captain Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) logged five assists.

Bailey Henderson led the way for the opposition with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

SMCC gets to .500 at 1-1 on the season.

The action continues when the Lady Seawolves travel to Pottersville, N.Y. to take on Berkeley College (N.Y.) and Word of Life Bible Institute on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12, as part of the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge.
