Lady Seawolves Grab 10-Point Victory At UMA in Conference Opener

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball program picked up a 62-52 win over the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) at the Augusta Civic Center on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 7-point lead after 10 minutes and held a 27-23 advantage at halftime. The Moose outscored SMCC by a 5-point margin in the third quarter to lead by one, before the road team rattled off an 11-2 run to finish the game and secure its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory of the 2022-23 campaign.

First-year captain Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) and junior captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) topped all scorers with 14 apiece; Mathisen tallied seven rebounds and three assists. Junior captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) finished with 13 rebounds.

UMA's Mariah Dunbar led her team with a double-double effort highlighted by 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.

SMCC improves to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play. UMA sits at 2-3 thus far, 0-2 YSCC.

The action continues when SMCC travels to New York to do battle with Paul Smith's College on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Sunday, Nov. 20.
