SMCC Offense Catches Fire In Big Win Over NHTI

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team (8-1, 4-0 YSCC) had six players score in double figures as they raced past the Lynx from NHTI (0-3, 0-2) in a 59-point triumph at The HUB on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

SMCC opened the game by outscoring NHTI 25-6 in the first quarter and would put up 30-plus points in the third and fourth quarters. An active Seawolves defense forced a whopping 37 turnovers and they dominated on the glass, hauling in 60 total rebounds (28 offensive, 32 defensive).

Junior captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) led all scorers with 21 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor, adding three rebounds, six assists and three steals. Junior captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) added 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench and sophomore captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) posted 15 points and eight rebounds. First-year captain Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) scored 14 points and swiped three steals and first-year Brooke Martin (Gray, Maine) had 14 points and three assists. First-year Hailie Casey (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) notched 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine) tallied seven points, seven rebounds and five steals and first-year Jasmine Aloisio (South Berwick, Maine) put up seven points and grabbed 12 boards. 

Maggie Brown led NHTI with 20 points and seven rebounds.

The Seawolves will face off against Massasoit Community College on Sunday, Dec. 4 at The HUB. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. WATCH
