Lady Seawolves win in season opener at Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took down the Terriers of Thomas College (NCAA Div. 3) 63-48 in its season opener on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The score was in favor of Thomas at the half 27-25, before the Seawolves put together a 21-point third quarter and outscored the opposition again in the fourth by six points.

Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) logged a monster double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, adding three blocks. First-year Macey Brown (Deer Isle, Maine) came off the bench to contribute 15 points on 7-12 shooting, and senior co-captain Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine) reached double digits with 10 points. 

Three Terriers scored in double figures led by Sky Kubwalo's 15 points. Thomas' Jay Jordan pulled down seven rebounds.

SMCC begins its season 1-0.

Next, the Seawolves will play host to Word of Life Bible Institute on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and then Berkeley College on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 12:00 p.m. in this year's edition of the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge.
