SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team picked up its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory in a one-sided affair, 86-43, over the Lynx from NHTI on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The game started with the Seawolves taking control right from the beginning. They outscored NHTI 21-2 in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game. NHTI struggled to find their rhythm on offense, shooting a mere 23.5% from the field. SMCC's defense was relentless, forcing NHTI into eight turnovers. The home team continued its dominance in the second quarter, outscoring NHTI 15-12. NHTI's Alexis Christensen was the lone bright spot, contributing 12 points. However, it was not enough to overcome SMCC's balanced scoring attack.

The second half played much the same as the first, with the Seawolves putting 31 points on the board in the fourth quarter to run away with their third straight win.

The Lynx struggled to contain SMCC's offensive firepower headlined by first-year Hannah Thorsen's (Kittery, Maine) double-double performance, 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Seawolves saw a spread in scoring with Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.), Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine), and Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) all contributing eight points.

NHTI's Janessa Lofton and Christensen combined for 22 points.

The Seawolves improve to 6-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play. NHTI slips to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in league action.

The action continues when SMCC plays host to the Vikings from Villa Maria College on Saturday, Dec. 2. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
