SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took total control over Villa Maria College 70-37 in non-conference action at The HUB on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Seawolves set the pace early getting ahead 17-6 in the early goings, and extending their lead 38-14 by halftime. Both offenses put up their largest totals in the third, but it was the home team that created even more seperation, 23-12. The final 10 minutes proved to be physical, personal fouls slowing the rhythm for SMCC. Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) threw in five of her season-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) continued her defensive prowess in the painted area with 15 rebounds and seven blocks; sophomore guard Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) logged an impressive seven steals to go along with seven points. The Seawolves were able to get to the free throw line 18 more times than the opposition and capitalized on points-off-turnovers 33-7.

Villa's Shanughnessy Bennett led her team with 11 points in 37 minutes on the floor.

SMCC picks up its fourth consecutive win to climb to 7-1 overall; Villa Maria remains winless at 0-4.

The Seawolves return to conference scheduling when they travel to Great Bay Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Tip-off in Portsmouth, N.H. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
