SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team came from behind to defeat the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) 68-63 in overtime on Saturday, Jan. 6.

After being held to single digit scoring efforts in each of the first two quarters, the Seawolves found themselves trailing by 21 points at the break.

Pushing the right buttons, Coach Stannard's team put together a 26-point third quarter to close the deficit to three. Back-and-forth action in the fourth was capped with a made layup by first year Ember Hastings (Hollis, Maine) to send the game into overtime at 61-61. Rookie guard Jenna Philbrook (Rochester, N.H.) totaled the final three points of SMCC's 7-point overtime period to secure the victory.

Junior guard Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) caught fire with a season-high 29 points, and six made three pointers in 31 minutes of action. Both Philbrook and first-year Macey Brown (Deer Isle, Maine) pulled down 13 rebounds apiece and combined for eight assists.

CCRI's Nysia Ortiz led her team with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists before picking up her fifth foul in the fourth.

SMCC begins a new win streak and improves to 9-2 overall; CCRI slips to 7-3.
