Seawolves trounce Knights with steady offensive production

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team extended its win streak to seven games with an 83-42 result over the Knights from Vermont State University- Randolph on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) connected on a three-pointer in SMCC's first possession of the game to give her team the lead for good.

All five starters for the Seawolves finished in double figures, led by first-year Ember Hastings' (Hollis, Maine) 17 points—Hastings was an efficient 8-10 from the floor spanning 20 minutes of action. Rookie guard Jenna Philbrook (Rochester, N.H.) had another all-around performance registering 11 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) improved on her league-leading 5.2 blk/g with seven on the afternoon.

SMCC converted 48.6 percent of its 74 field goal attempts, a season best, and assisted on 24.

Vermont's Yvonne Roberge led her team with 14 points and six boards playing all 40 minutes.

SMCC moves to 15-2 overall, 7-2 in league play. Vermont dips to 5-8, 2-6 YSCC.

The Seawolves look for revenge against the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
