Seawolves offense kept quiet in Rhode Island

WARWICK, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was defeated 71-55 in non-conference action at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Sunday, Jan. 28.

The Seawolves were afforded just five points in the first quarter and 14 in the second. The slow start had them trailing for the rest of the contest. SMCC outscored the opposition by an 8-point margin in the third but CCRI responded with its most productive quarter in the fourth posting 28.

Sophomore Kailya Delisle (Cumberland, Maine) managed a season-high 12 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. First-year Ember Hastings (Hollis, Maine) totaled 11 points and senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.

Four CCRI starters finished in double digit scoring led by Nysia Ortiz's 21. Stephanie Walker logged a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The result moves SMCC to 16-4 overall; CCRI improves to 12-5 on the season.

The Seawolves get back to conference scheduling when they travel to NHTI on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Tip-off in Concord, N.H. is set for 6:00 p.m.
