Another team effort lifts women’s basketball over NHTI

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took down NHTI for the second time this season, rolling the Lynx 89-36 on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The Seawolves totaled more than 20 points in each of the first three quarters, and limited the opposition to single digit production in all but the first quarter.

Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) knocked down four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 18 spanning just 12 minutes of action. Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) continued her dominance in the paint collecting 12 points on 6-8 shooting, 10 rebounds, and six blocks. Senior co-captain Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine) netted 12 points and matched a season-high six assists.

The SMCC bench erupted for 42 points to contribute to a 39.1 percent shooting performance.

NHTI's Maggie Brown and Makayla LaPanne combined for 20 points.

The Seawolves climb to 17-4, 9-3 in conference play; the Lynx dip to 2-9 overall, 1-7 YSCC.

The action continues when SMCC travels to Norwich University (NCAA Div. 3) to take on the Cadets Thursday, Feb. 1. Tip-off in Northfield, Vt. is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
