NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was narrowly defeated by the Cadets of Norwich University (NCAA Div. 3) 63-60 on the road Thursday, Feb. 1.

The Cadets won each of the first three quarters, albeit by four points or less. The Seawolves strung together a 22-point four quarter, and found themselves with the ball, down one possession and the shot clock turned off. Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) heaved a last second three-pointer in hopes to send the game to overtime, but wouldn't get the bounce.

York topped all scorers in the game with 21, her fifth 20-point performance of the season. Sophomore Kaiyla Delisle (Cumberland, Maine) came off the bench to net 20; senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) pulled down nine rebounds and tallied seven blocks.

As a team, the Seawolves logged a more efficient shooting performance than their counterparts but were allowed 14 less field goal attempts.

Norwich's Haley Brewster led her team with 20 points, among two other double digit scorers.

The Seawolves sport a 17-5 overall mark, and return to action when they host the Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy (NCAA Div. 3) in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
