SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered an 84-41 loss to the NCAA Div. 3 Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) in a non-conference contest Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The Mariners made quick work of a 10-0 run to begin the game and outscored the Seawolves by the same 10-point margin in the first quarter. MMA's Evelyn Dagan netted nine points in the second to power the Mariners to their largest quarter total of the game.

SMCC was limited to a single digit scoring effort in the third quarter but found its rhythm in the fourth to produce 14 points. The Seawolves didn't have an answer for MMA's impressive shooting performance (45.5 percent) that carried the Mariners to their twelfth straight win.

First-year Macey Brown (Deer Isle, Maine) topped the Seawolves in scoring with eight; junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) and sophomore guard Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) combined for 12 points. Rookie guard Jenna Philbrook (Rochester, N.H.) ripped down 10 rebounds—her third game of 10 or more rebounds this season.

Four Mariners logged double digit scoring efforts led by Erianna Moore's 22 on 10-19 shooting.

The result moves SMCC to 17-6 overall; MMA climbs to 18-4 overall.

The action continues when the Seawolves play host to the USCAA Div. 1 Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
