Lady Seawolves win on Sophomore Recognition Day

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took down the USCAA Div. 1 Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) 77-67 on Sophomore Recognition Day, Saturday, Feb. 10.

Prior to the contest, Head Coach Katie Stannard recognized four graduating sophomores for their dedication and leadership to the program. Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine), Kaitlyn Regan (Limington, Maine), Kaiyla Delisle (Cumberland, Maine), and Jasmine Aloisio (South Berwick, Maine) were met at half court by coaches and families in honor of their accomplishments as Seawolves.

First-year Jenna Philbrook (Rochester, N.H.) came off the bench to score seven first quarter points and senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in eight second-quarter points to leave the Seawolves ahead 35-34 at the break.

It was the Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) show in the second half as the junior co-captain netted eight points in the third quarter and 19 more in the fourth. She combined for four three-pointers and a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line to power her team to a 10-point win.

Andrews finished with a season-high 19 points and seven rebounds.

Four UMFK starters posted double digit scoring efforts led by Tobie Yocum's 15. Tamia Roebuck totaled 14 points and nine rebounds.

The result moves SMCC to 18-6 overall; UMFK falls to 12-8 on the season.

The action continues when the Seawolves play host to conference rivals Central Maine Community College on Junior/Senior Recognition Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Fans are instructed to wear white in support of SMCC!
