SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered a 65-57 loss to the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Junior/Senior Recognition Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Prior to the contest, Head Coach Katie Stannard recognized five graduating students for their dedication and leadership to the program. Shea Pickering (Drewsville, N.H.), Mariah Parker (Madison, N.H.), Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine), Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine), and Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) were all met at half court by coaches and families in honor of their accomplishments as Seawolves.

Andrews tallied nine of her total 15 points in the first quarter, but the Seawolves would finish the first 10 minutes behind five points—the largest quarter margin of the game. SMCC finished the half scoring five unanswered to close its deficit to six at the break.

The teams traded runs in the third quarter and matched offensive production, but the Mustangs fended off any chance of a comeback in the fourth converting a three pointer and consecutive makes at the free throw line in the final minutes of regulation.

SMCC outperformed CMCC in field goal percentage, but the turnover battle proved costly.

Andrews logged a double-double grabbing 11 boards to go along with 15 points and five blocks. First-year Ember Hastings (Hollis, Maine) contributed 10 points and sophomore Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) added eight.

CMCC's Winnie LaRochelle came off the bench to lead her team with 14 points.

The result moves SMCC to 18-7 overall, and 9-4 in conference play. CMCC sits atop of the league standings at 24-1, 14-0 YSCC.

The Seawolves round out their regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17 when they travel to Vermont State University- Randolph. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
