SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team rolled the #6 Herons from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) 95-49 in the quarterfinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament Saturday, Feb. 24.

The Seawolves' offense was slow to start, leading the visitors 14-13 after the first quarter of play. SMCC relied on its dependable inside presence as senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) and first-year Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) combined for 12 points in the second quarter to create comfortable separation by halftime.

The home team held the Herons to single-digit production in the third quarter and posted its best shooting performance in the fourth, 54.5 percent on 22 attempts. Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) netted 11 of her total 22 points in the final 10 minutes.

Andrews stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks. Sophomore Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) came off the bench to score 12 and rookie guard Jenna Philbrook (Rochester, N.H.) totaled 11 points, eight assists, and five steals.

Mary Paradis led GBCC with 15 points and teammate Madison Lovely finished with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

#3 SMCC advances to the semifinal round to take on the #2-seeded Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta. Tip-off at NHTI (Concord, N.H.) is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 2.
