
LINCOLN, R.I. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball fell to the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) 86-43 on Sunday afternoon.
SUMMARY
First-year forward Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, providing a bright spot in SMCC's effort. Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) also contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds.
CCRI's offense was led by Angelisse Melendez, who tallied 25 points, including seven three-pointers. Stephanie Walker added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights, who shot 44.7% from the field throughout the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves kept the game close in the first quarter. Trueman and Thorsen controlled the boards early, helping SMCC stay competitive. However, CCRI's offense took off in the second quarter, outscoring SMCC 20-6 and extending their lead to 42-22 at halftime.
Despite a better offensive showing in the third quarter, CCRI maintained their offensive pressure. Melendez connected on multiple threes to keep the Knights in control. In the final frame, CCRI pulled away with a 24-point quarter, sealing the victory.

The Seawolves (8-9, 6-5 YSCC) will look to bounce back when they return to action on Wednesday, January 29, when they face off at NHTI. Tip-off is scheduled for 6PM.
