Seawolves, Clippers End in Draw

Seawolves, Clippers End in Draw

Machias - The Lady Seawolves got down early in this afternoon's YSCC soccer matchup against the Clippers of UMaine-Machias but they fought their way back in the second half, scoring two goals and sending the game into overtime. The teams battled for two overtime periods but no winner was determined as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Clippers opened the game with high intensity which resulted in an early goal off a well played corner kick from Samantha Shaneybrook to teammate Sierra Tjelmeland who was streaking in from the back post. Machias managed to control the ball for the majority of the first half and a Seawolves' foul allowed Shaneybrook to place a free kick into the far upper ninety, giving the Clippers a 2-0 advantage going into the break.

The second half was nearly all Seawolves as they came out firing and dominated in ball control. Seawolves' forward Kym Hendrix (Waterboro, ME) scored two breakaway goals, blowing past the Clippers defensive line and sliding the ball past the keeper. SMCC had opportunities to take the lead before the end of regulation but the Clippers defense buttoned down and kept the Seawolves' offense at bay.

The two overtime periods were relatively uneventful as both teams were effected by fatigue and the frigid temps. After 110 minutes of play the teams ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Seawolves are now 5-1-1 in conference play, ranked second in the YSCC East. They will be back in action on Saturday October 10th at 2pm when they host Unity College.
