Women’s Soccer Unveils 2018 Slate

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— In his first season as Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), Ethan Wells will look to conquer a 13-game schedule and improve on a 36-35-9 record spanning the program’s previous six seasons. A Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champion in 2015, SMCC hopes to regain its position in the record books, this year again in a one-division format.

The Lady SeaWolves will open regular season play with a perennial United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament team in Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Sept. 1st. SMCC will get first-time opponent Green Mountain College on the road as part of a weekend trip that begins YSCC play at Vermont Technical College Sept. 8-9.

The conference slate continues with a midweek showdown against Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Sept. 11th. The Lady Wolves are unbeaten against the rival Mustangs at 14-0-2 all-time. SMCC will continue its home stand with Paul Smith’s College and reigning YSCC champions NHTI on Sept. 15th and 19th. The women travel to Hampshire College before closing September with non-conference tilt vs. the Community College of Rhode Island on the 29th.

The SeaWolves debut October when they host Unity College on the 3rd. The YSCC Rams have forever played SMCC tough—last season’s match ending in a 0-0 stalemate. SMCC will look to overcome Massasoit Community College in its first game against the Warriors from Brockton, Mass. in South Portland on Oct. 6th. Finally, the Lady Wolves wrap up their regular season with a three-game road stint first with the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Columbus Day. SMCC aims to defeat the University of Maine at Machias for the first time away in Washington County on October 13th before completing a two-game series with CMCC, this time denoted a non-conference game on Wednesday the 17th.

The YSCC Championship Tournament will be held at NHTI in Concord, N.H. October 27th-28th. The USCAA National Tournament is set for November 8th-12th in Virginia Beach, Va.

All soccer home games are played at Wainwright Recreation Complex at 125 Gary L. Maietta Way in South Portland.
