SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Nicole Faircloth as Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach.
A native of Westfield, Mass., Faircloth graduated from the University of New England in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Now on the sidelines, Faircloth played four years at the University of New England as a defensive center midfielder and center back. Faircloth made Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason appearances all four years and was a two-time all-conference selection. As a senior captain, Faircloth was honored with the Female Senior Leadership Award for her involvement as president of UNE’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Prior to UNE, Faircloth attended Westfield High School where she was a four-year member of the varsity soccer program, captain, and Student Council president. She also has experience at the club level playing premier for the Junior Pioneers of Western Massachusetts.
Faircloth currently works as a registered nurse in medical oncology at Central Maine Medical Center.
Head Coach Ethan Wells expressed his excitement, “I’m thrilled to have Nicole on board this season. Her skill set and experience as a player will bring a dimension that will add to our tactics defensively. I’ve known Nicole since her playing days at UNE and her strengths as a leader will make for a wonderful addition to the program!”
Faircloth commented, “I am incredibly honored to be named Assistant Coach of the women’s soccer team, and I want to thank Ethan and Matt Richards for this wonderful opportunity. Becoming a student-athlete at the collegiate level was one of the greatest and most influential decisions I made during my years at UNE, and I want the same experience for our players. I am excited to bring new ideas to the program along with a comfortable, positive, and fun environment. I cannot wait to get started with the team!”
