Early goal leads Bobcats over Seawolves 1-0

PAUL SMTH'S, N.Y. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team suffered a loss, 0-1, to the Bobcats of Paul Smith's College (PSC) in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The Bobcats would be on the attack early, scoring in the 7th minute when Matti Swan connected a shot off a cross from Hayleigh Gates, to take a 1-0 lead over the Seawolves. For the remainder of the game, both teams were unable to capitalize on their offensive opportunities, leading PSC victorious over SMCC.

The Bobcats posted an impressive 14 shots in the first half and finished with a game total of 15 shots, 12 of those on target. The Seawolves tallied seven shots, five on frame.

Sophomore Isabella Tanis (Brewer, Maine) led SMCC with a pair of shots, both on target; PSC's Haven Bradt racked up five shots.

The Bobcats goalkeeper, Peyton Hoffman totaled five saves in 90 minutes. The Seawolves goalkeepers Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) and Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) split time to combine for nine saves. 

The result moves SMCC to 4-3-1 on the season, 2-1-1 in YSCC play.

The Seawolves are back on the road in league action against the Moose of the University Maine at Augusta (UMA) on Thursday, Oct. 3. Kickoff at the CARA Fields Complex is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
