SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department and Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Nicole Kane has announced the hiring of Brianne Maloney to the position of Assistant Coach in preparation for the program’s inaugural season coming fall 2020.
A South Portland High School and Saint Joseph’s College (Me.) graduate, Brianne will join the SeaWolves’ staff having served in multiple coaching roles for her alma mater Red Riots at both the volleyball and basketball junior varsity and varsity levels.
Brianne started her volleyball playing career in high school, where she was also a member of the basketball and lacrosse programs. She continued her athletic endeavors at Saint Joe’s as a four-year contributor to women’s basketball and lacrosse before earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
Coach Kane spoke to her excitement in continuing her working relationship with Brianne, “I was lucky enough to be introduced to Brianne when coaching at South Portland. There, she was a great addition to our coaching team as both a motivator and leader. Her involvement coaching multi sports and recent experience as a student-athlete gives her the tools to help effectively mentor a first-year program. I am extremely excited to continue coaching with her at SMCC!”
Brianne comments, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the SeaWolves family this fall as the Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach. I have come to know Coach Kane’s expectations and philosophies and think this will benefit early success and the introduction of a new program. I’m ready for this new challenge and can’t wait to get into the gym and meet everyone!”
In addition to her duties on the court, Brianne will continue to work for the South Portland school district as a Special Education Teacher and Case Manager.
