Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-2 In Weekend Slate

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team played to a 1-2 record over a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) weekend play date that spanned Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19.

Sept. 18 vs. Paul Smith's College: L, 3-0 [BOX]

The SeaWolves fell to the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College in consecutive sets in their first home match of the season.

SMCC netted 17, 16, and 19 points behind 13 kills courtesy of first-year defensive specialist Talia Catoggio (Gorham, Maine).

Sept. 19 vs. Northern Essex Community College: W, 3-2 [BOX]

SMCC came back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five sets against NJCAA-opponent Northern Essex Community College.

Catoggio logged 36 total kills, Rachel Pardi (Portland, Maine) 12 in the marathon match. The two joined for 24 digs and 12 solo blocks to help the home team secure their second victory against the Knights this season.

Sept. 19 vs. Great Bay Community College: L, 3-0 [BOX]

The SeaWolves were defeated in three sets to the reigning conference champion Herons of Great Bay Community College (GBCC) 25-13, 25-21, and 25-22.

SMCC's Lauren Kiss (Lyman, Maine) and Catoggio combined for 16 kills and seven digs in the match. On the other side of the net, it was GBCC's Kayleigh MacDougall who stole the show offensively totaling 17 kills on 36 attempts.

The Lady SeaWolves stand 2-2 overall, 0-2 in league play.

SMCC gets back to action this weekend in a round-robin in Auburn, Maine. SMCC will play the host Mustangs from Central Maine Community College at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Lynx of NHTI at 12:00 p.m.
