Lewellen powers Seawolves to victory at NHTI

CONCORD, N.H. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team traveled down to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent NHTI on Saturday Sept. 21.

The Seawolves would win the first two sets, 25-9 and 25-17, to take a 2-0 lead over the Lynx. NHTI bounced back in the third, winning 25-23 to cut their deficit in half. SMCC responded with their best offensive performance of the game in the fourth set, landing 10 kills off 20 attempts, to clinch a 3-1 victory over the Lynx. 

Freshman Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) produced the highest point total for her team with 14 kills off 23 attempts and 18.5 points. Freshman Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) swatted 11 kills off 19 attempts, adding 22 assists, and freshman Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) was on the other end of 20 digs and three service aces for the Seawolves. As a team, SMCC combined for 43 kills and 12 service aces.

The result moves SMCC to an impressive 7-0 record, 4-0 in YSCC action.
