SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College baseball team swept the Cougars of Holyoke Community College in its double-header on Saturday, Oct. 1 winning 9-6 and 8-7.

Game 1 (W, 9-6)

Sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) made the start for the SeaWolves in the first game. Herrin tossed six complete innings, and allowed six runs, four earned, over eight hits. He recorded five strikeouts in earning the win. First-year Tyler Kruse (Punta Gorda, Fla.) came on in relief and pitched one scoreless to record the save.

Holyoke jumped on the scoreboard first, posting two runs in their first at-bats, but the SeaWolves overcame the deficit with two four-run innings. The first-year designated hitter Bryce Smith (Greenland, N.H.) went yard and collected four RBI on the day as both Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) and Max Salevsky (Hollis, Maine) both recorded multi-hit games.

Game 2 (L, 8-7)

Head coach Jordan Yanni turned to junior Charlie Hallak (Augusta, Maine) in the second game of the double-header. Hallak threw six innings, and allowed five runs on six hits. Kruse made his second relief appearance of the day and faced five batters, striking out two and securing the save.

Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine), Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.), and Leeman all collected two hits as Herrin delivered with two RBI.

The SeaWolves improve to 3-2-1 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play, and 5-2-1 overall.

SMCC will round out its season on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it hosts the YSCC Fall Invitational welcoming both Central Maine Community College and New Hampshire Technical Institute to South Portland in a three-game tournament format. The SeaWolves are scheduled to play the winner of CMCC and NHTI in a nine-inning game at 2 p.m.
