Seawolves Baseball Downed by Mont Alto in Series Finale

MONT ALTO, Penn. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team lost its third and final game with Penn State Mont Alto, 6-5, on Saturday, Mar. 18.

Both teams traded scoring efforts between the third and seventh innings leaving the game even at 5-5. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Mont Alto's Michael Scott drove in Brady Bigler on a single to right to walk it off and complete the weekend sweep.

First-year Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine), and sophomores Sam Keblinsky (Mount Desert Island, Maine) and Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) finished their afternoons with one run and two hits each for the Seawolves.

Mont Alto's lead-off man Jared Pine tallied four hits in five trips, scored twice, and recorded a RBI.

SMCC starter Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Penn.) threw seven complete innings, allowing nine hits and striking out four. Sophomore relief man Alex Grabowski (Plainville, Conn.) suffered the loss; Mont Alto's Caleb Cawthern grabbed the win.

The result pushes SMCC to 6-7 on the season.

The Seawolves return to the diamond on Sunday, Mar. 26 when they host a pair with Massasoit Community College at Graves Athletic Field. First-pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
