SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team fell to the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) 12-10 in its home opener on Monday, Apr. 3.

The Knights' offense started strong posting four runs in the opening frame. The Seawolves waited until the fourth and fifth innings to do their damage scoring nine to take a four-run lead. Momentum shifted for good when the visitors managed some late inning magic to secure the victory.

First-years Dylan Sellinger (Auburn, Maine) and Luke Wearne (Ellington, Conn.) both recorded multi-hit games, combining for four of the Seawolves' seven hits. Wearne recorded three RBI to bring his season total to nine.

On the opposing side, CCRI's Sam Laurie totaled four hits and scored three runs. Teammate Noah Cook filled the stat sheet with two hits, two runs and three RBI.

Seawolves pitcher Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) threw 5.0 innings; reliever Kalin Marum (New South Wales, Australia) suffered the loss. CCRI's Garrett Bolwell was credited the win.

The result moves SMCC to 6-9 on the year.

Baseball is set to play another nine-inning game against Northern Essex Community College again at home on Tuesday, Apr. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
