Baseball Picks Up First Conference Win

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball blanked the Herons from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) 17-0 on Friday, Apr. 7 in its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest of the year.

The Seawolves quickly set out to build their lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, gaining another in the second and then dominating the third with 12 runs.

Sophomore Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) finished a strong performance at the plate with two runs, three hits and three RBI. Not to be outdone, first-year teammate Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine) logged two hits and two RBI, scoring three runs himself. Sophomore Sam Keblinsky (Mount Desert Island, Maine) also matched a season-high three RBI.

The Herons' Alexander Noel recorded a hit, and contributed 3.1 innings on the hill.

Seawolves' starter Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Penn.) tossed four complete innings and was credited the win tallying seven strikeouts. GBCC's Noel was suffered the loss.

The Seawolves break their 7-game skid and improve to 7-10 overall, 1-0 in conference play.

The action continues when the Seawolves host USCAA-opponent Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse on Saturday, April 8. Game times are at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
