Seawolves Slip to NJCAA #7-Ranked NECC

HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team fell to the NJCAA #7-ranked Knights of Northern Essex Community College (NECC) 12-5 on the road Wednesday, Apr. 19.

Neither were able to produce in the first frame, but both sides generated four runs in the second. The game remained even until the Knights pulled away scattering eight runs over the final three innings.

Sophomore Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) finished his afternoon 3-4, featuring a homer, two runs, and two RBI. NECC's Kameron Levesque led his team with three hits, four RBI, and two runs scored.

Seawolves' starter Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) tossed 5.2 innings, and allowed six runs over four hits and three strikeouts. Sophomores Alex Grabowski (Plainville, Conn.) and Kalin Marum (New South Wales, Australia) made relief appearances. NECC's Alex Sweeney generated seven strikeouts and was credited the win.

The Seawolves stand 16-13 overall.

Next, SMCC plays host to the University of Connecticut at Avery Point in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 22.  Game times are listed as 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
