SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team secured a convincing 8-2 victory over York County Community College (YCCC) at home on Wednesday, Sept. 18 backed by a strong offensive showing and a dominant pitching performance. SMCC racked up 11 hits, consistently applying pressure to YCCC's defense, which committed two errors on the day.
The Seawolves' starter, Max Noto (Wentzville, Mo.) was exceptional, going 5.1 innings while allowing just two hits and one run, none of which were earned. Sophomore Leudys Castillo (Estero, Fl.) and first-year Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) came in to shut the door on the Hawks. Their command kept YCCC's bats quiet, giving SMCC a comfortable lead to work with.
Sophomore Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) led the charge for the Mustangs with three hits and four RBIs at the plate. Sophomores Dante Tocci (Portland, Maine) and Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine) added two hits as well. Offense was not an issue for the Seawolves as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third and never looked back.
YCCC managed only four hits in the game and struggled to generate offense against SMCC's pitching. Despite a solid effort, they couldn't overcome the Seawolves' offensive production and defensive prowess, resulting in an 8-2 final score.
The action continues when SMCC travels to the University of Maine at Augusta in doubleheader action Sunday, Sept. 22.
