SANFORD, Maine – In a tightly contested game, the York County Community College (YCCC) Hawks secured a 5-3 victory over the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team, despite being outhit 10-8.
The Seawolves showed strong offensive power, racking up more hits than the Hawks, but two costly errors ultimately sealed their fate. Sophomore Adam Rowland (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada) and first-year Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) made up the majority of the hitting for SMCC collecting three hits apiece.
The Hawks took an early lead, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by the Seawolves. SMCC fought back, but scoring only one in the ninth proved not enough. Though the Seawolves continued to threaten throughout the game, they stranded several runners in scoring position. Clutch defense helped YCCC escape a few jams, and late insurance runs in the seventh gave them the cushion they needed to close out the win.
The Seawolves look to bounce back on Friday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Bridgton Academy for a 4:00 p.m. start.
